HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE POSTER
(1987)
|
Created for Graphitti Designs' HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE (Hardcover) (also printed inside the book as a tri-fold page), this poster feature over 50 artists, including George Pérez.
The only means to getting this poster
was through a postcard that came with the book. There was a limited
print of 10,000 copies, but I suspect not everyone who bought the
hardcover sent away their poster -- so this is an extremely rare
poster.
Artists and their signatures on this
poster includes: Jim Mooney, Jim Aparo, Steve Bissette/John Totleben,
Denys Cowan, P Craig Russell, Mart Nodell, Joe Staton, Dave Stevens,
Bill Sienkiewicz, Jack Kirby/Mike Royer, Keith Giffen, Brett Blevins/Al
Williamson, Michael Kaluta, Gene Colan, Steve Lightle, Brian Bolland,
Michael T Gilbert, Jim Starlin, Joe Kubert, Art Adams, Walt Simonson,
Paul Norris, Mike Grell, Mary Wilshire, Andy Kubert, Gil Kane, Kurt
Schaffenberger, Bob Kane, Curt Swan, George Pérez, Howard Chaykin, Jan
Duursema, Carmine Infantino, Jim Steranko, Gray Morrow, Neal Adams,
Murphy Anderson, Dave Gibbons, Gilbert Hernandez, Dan Spiegle, Frank
Thorne, Ramona Fradon, Matt Wagner, Ernie Colon, Bob Kane, Irwin Hasen,
Joe Orlando, Dave Stevens, Pat Broderick, Jamie Hernandez, Steve Rude,
Frank McLaughlin, and Dick Giordano.

March 2, 2003 | History/DC Universe Print Update |
|
From Kevin McGovern
This is in response to Victors question dated 2 March about enclosed picture.
It appeared in the limited edition of
the HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE. A run of 1000 copies which were signed
by both George and Marv on this special plate in that edition only. I
have just purchased this edition myself from eBay!
Hope that helps Victor?!

From Victor
I ran across this "History of the DC Universe signed
and numbered print" on the JLA/Avengers port site.
I just want to know if you know of when this was printed, what was the
print run, where it was sold and if there is any where to locate one
now. I have attached an image of the print for you.
Any info you can send me is greatly appreciated.
From Vu
Please read the entire Printing the Legend
by Marv Wolfman. Not because it was painstakingly transcribed by me,
but it gives a good insight on how the book was assembled, ironically a
history lesson on the History book.
This new introduction is obviously different introduction which was written for the HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE HC (Graphiti Version). Here is an excerpt from "THE BEGINNING" written by Marv Wolfman (Sept 22, 1987)
...And so I suggested The History of the DC Universe
- a chronological time-line of the Universe as it now stands.
Everything is in order. Everything important has been explained. And it
is all brought to life in a magnificent art-portfolio by George Pérez
which transcends comic book sequential art.
I conceived The History
as an art book with just enough text to explain the order of the
universe but not to interfere with the art. In my original discussion
of The History of the DC Universe we talked about a special version of the series - where we would take the two 48 page issues of The History
and bind them together in hardcover form. I asked that a special
fold-out be included and that we make the book something truly
different. Comic books had been disposable items for too long. The
special version of The History of the DC Universe was meant to be put on bookshelves as something the fans would treasure and keep.
