An Interview with George Pérez, Comicbook Legend, Star of Legend of the Red Reaper

To most, you are known first and foremost as a comicbook artist, but you
have recently made your acting debut in the forthcoming Legend of the
Red Reaper. What can you tell us about the film and especially the
character you're playing?
Well, I was given the script only after multiple rewrites, I
was probably not part of the cast at the time, the part was specifically
written by Tara Cardinal [Tara
Cardinal interview - click here] just to feature me in there,
including the fact that the character almost bears my name - the
character's name is Pere, Pérez without the z at the end.
It was just a
nice little cameo bit. I think it impressed Tara the most, obviously she
watches over everything. I think she knew I had done some stage-acting
before although this was the first screen-acting I had ever done,
so it was nice to see the impressed look on her face - "My God, he
can act!" It was kind of fun, I did two or three scenes with the lead
male character, and it will be interesting to see how it looks all put
together ... and if my scenes are actually there or land on the cutting
room floor - it's always showbiz, you never know.

Okay-- back from vacation and revving up for one helluva year.
10 commission sketches done aboard ship are now on their way to my art
agent (I hand delivered the 5-page T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS story upon
docking in New York) and now I'm working on the illos for my brother's
memoirs.
On Monday I begin laying out three covers for a trio of GREEN LANTERN
books which will form one triptych image that will hopefully be made
into a poster.
Then I'm set to draw a mini-series called THE SECRET SEVEN and have been
asked to draw a short JSA story for an upcoming anniversary.
As if that weren't enough, I've also been approached by DC about being
involved in a major project which might reunite me with a certain Amazon
Princess. Just at the discussion stage right now, but it can prove
interesting. We'll see.
All this, plus finishing more commission pieces, designing a movie
poster for LEGEND OF THE RED REAPER for my dear friend Tara Cardinal and
designing characters and visuals for another proposed super-hero movie
called RELATIVELY SUPER written by my Moonlight buddy, Sonny Dyon--not
to mention overseeing the color proofs for the long awaited NEW TEEN
TITANS: GAMES graphic novel and I definitely have a full load for 2011.
Now all I have to do is survive it.

HOLLYWOOD,
CA - January 8th, 2010 - Legend of the Red Reaper, the long awaited
comic book style feature film from Indy film from the twisted brain of
scream queen Tara Cardinal announces the launch of the franchise.
The
feature film, which stars well known Scream Queen Tara Cardinal (Song
of the Shattered, Delivery), David Mackey (The Sacred, Drop Dead Diva),
Eliza Swenson (Witches of Oz 3D, Transmorphers), Shayne Leighton (The
Incubus), Tom Nowicki (The Blind Side, Never Back Down, Letters to God)
Christian Boeving (fitness model and celebrity), Legendary comic book
artist George Perez (Superman, Wonderman, Spiderman, etc..) Al Snow
(WWE, TNA), Joe Hollow (Blood Struck, Cut, Absentia) Devanny Pinn (Nude
Nuns with Big Guns) , Lloyd Kaufman (Troma) and Barry Ratcliffe
(Brothers and Sisters, Water for Elephants) has begun development on a
new comic book and the film.
The story, written by Michael J
Schaefer (Joe Hollow’s “Cut”), follows a young Red Reaper (played by
Tara Cardinal) and her rocky relationship with her mother, The Teller
Witch (played by Eliza Swenson) and her mentor: Kreios (played by Cal
Simmons).
What’s exciting about the comic project, in addition to
the “300-esque” style of the film is George Perez’ involvement in the
feature (although not the comic, due to his exclusivity contracts with
Marvel and DC).
George has drawn covers and pages for such
classic titles as Action Comics, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Justice
League of America, Superman, Super Girl, Star Trek, Teen Titans, Wonder
Woman, Avengers, Conan, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man,
and X-men.
Several promising artists are being considered, but
submissions will be accepted throughout the first quarter of 2011.
Interested artists are highly encouraged to submit samples of their work

Both George Perez and
Michael J Schaefer have significant roles in the film. George plays the
advisor and confidante of the Prince (David Mackey). Michael J Schaefer
is the fully human mercenary/brick wall that no man can pass.
