AVENGERS: ULTRON UNLEASHED #1 (Aug 1999)

ULTRON TRADING CARD (UK) (Oct 2000)

     January 23, 2002 | John Buscema RIP

My Big John Buscema contribution ! RIP
    Wednesday, January 23 2002 at 15:00:49 GMT

    Hi all..

They only time I ever got to color John Buscema artwork was for the trade paper back Ultron Unleashed a few years back . "see image below " The funny story about this cover was that George Perez was supposed to draw it and turned it down because of his hectic schedule drawing Avengers every month. So I was talking to George on the phone one day when he told me he turned it down and a great idea popped into my brain " ZAPP ! " why not ask the artist who drew the original Ultron stories to draw the cover Big John B and have George ink it and of coarse me color/sep it!
George loved this idea !! And he would gladly make time to ink it. He had only inked something of John's art once in the past " A No- Prize to anyone who can tell me what that was "and would love to do so again. So I called the editor and made the suggestion to him and the rest is history. So I made my own opportunity to color a Buscema Avengers / Ultron cover and I'm truly glad I did get to work with him at least once. He was one my all time favorite Marvel artists and will miss his masterful artwork.

Rest in peace Big John and thanks for all the eye candy.

    best..
    Tom Smith "ACAL!"
