RIP George Perez
To all of George’s fans and friends,
Constance here, with the update no one wants to read. George passed away yesterday, peacefully at home with his wife of 490 months and family by his side. He was not in pain and knew he was very, very loved.
We are all very much grieving but, at the same time, we are so incredibly grateful for the joy he brought to our lives. To know George was to love him; and he loved back. Fiercely and with his whole heart. The world is a lot less vibrant today without him in it.
He loved all of you. He loved hearing your posts and seeing the drawings you sent and the tributes ...

AVENGERS 30TH ANNIVERSARY POSTER (1994)
Marvel Press
I was in a Patriots glow all weekend so missed out on being on time for
the George Perez retirement accolades, but that guy drew superheroes in a
way that made you love them as much as he did. Whatever Kirby or Adams
meant to previous generations, Perez meant for my fandom.
I've had a tattered version of this hanging wherever I've live
since high school. And the JLA/Avengers Absolute Edition was probably my
first Prized Comics Possession. He's always drawn with joy and he made
nerdy shit fun. That's the legacy of the OG Crisis as much as anything.

Tom Smith responds to removal of The Shroud from the Avengers Anniversary Poster

Regarding: Comic Book Legends Revealed: George Perez accidentally drew a non-Avenger into his Avengers 30th Anniversary Poster
I do not know were they got their info about the Avengers poster, but it's not from me.
Let me just respond to their claims to me taking it on myself
to remove the Shroud from the poster: it never happened. It was George
[Perez], who asked me to remove him, he is the artist, and only he
could make that call, not me. Also, George never draws anything
accidentally. He wanted the Shroud in there the first time and wanted
him removed 11 years later. I cannot remember the reason why, George
will have to tell you that himself.
Once again, I never talked to these guys ever about this poster so I do
not know where they got their info from, and quite frankly, I'm a
little annoyed that they would quote me on something I never said.
Best..

Comic Book Legends Revealed #300 – Part 2
February 12, 2011 @ 12:00 PM
Welcome to the three hundredth in a series of examinations of comic book legends and whether they are true or false. Click here for an archive of the previous two hundred and ninety-nine.
COMIC LEGEND: George Perez accidentally drew a non-Avenger into his Avengers 30th Anniversary Poster, then edited him out years later.
STATUS: True
George Perez was #4 on the Top 50 Comic Book Artists countdown.
(excerpt)
As you can tell, Shroud is intentionally put to the side, to show his
connection to the team without showing him as an actual MEMBER of the
team (by the way, anyone have a color jpeg of this poster?).
However, as you might imagine, this was kind of confusing. It’s a
poster of the Avengers and he’s on there. So perhaps due to this (or
whatever other reasons) a list was made up of members of the Avengers
and it was given to George Perez to draw for his awesome 30th
Anniversary Poster in 1993 (with Tom Smith on colors).
It’s an amazing piece, even if so many of the characters are wearing
their 1993 look, which is pretty awful in a lot of their cases (like
Namor and Scarlet Witch, for two).
But, naturally, the Shroud is on there.
Little mistake, not a big deal, but what amuses me is that 11 years
later, Marvel decides to begin to collect Kurt Busiek and George Perez’s
Avengers comics into a series of hardcovers called Avengers Assemble.
To celebrate the first one, they asked Smith to re-color the poster
for inclusion in the hardcover using computer color. Smith decide to fix
an 11-year old mistake and actually used some computer wizardry to
REMOVE the Shroud from the poster!
Check it out (Dynamic Forces put out a lithograph of the revised poster, using the humorous “41st Anniversary” tagline)…
Thanks to Tom Smith for the lowdown on the change!

Hi guys..
Check this out.
After 11 years Marvel asked me to re-color this monster using computer color.
It will be used as a 2-page-spread in the Avengers Assemble HC which is on
sale in July and in the July Marvel Previews catalog.
I changed a few things ... can anyone pick them out?
Enjoy..

It came already signed, but not
numbered. The label on the tube reads "The Avengers signed limited
edition poster by George Perez". I guess I should have made that clear
(this is the first time I have tried to sell anything on the 'net, be
gentle ). This was one of those "Marvel Limited" projects that they did
in the early 90's. It came out about the same year as the HULK:FUTURE
IMPERFECT hardcover, if I recall correctly (I got them both around the
same time). It was signed with what apears to be a black marker. The
man who got it for me ordered it from Diamond.
In fact, I don't remember if Marvel ever
did any other projects under the name of "Marvel Limited". If I am
wrong on this, somebody let me know of any other projects done under
the "Marvel Limited" banner...for curiosity's sake.
And before anyone asks, the FUTURE
IMPERFECT hardcover is NOT for sale. That baby WAS signed to me
personally by Peter David. However, I'll have some other cool stuff on
here in the next week or three. I needs me sum edjication munny...and I
would rather try and sell it here than Ech-Bay so the REAL Perez fans
will have first chance at it.

Someone asked me about this poster. This is a great poster, by the way.
I remember buying the poster at Neil's Comics & Cards in Fresno,
California.
The poster feature every Avengers members (including honorary status) as of that year, with the exception of Moria Brandon.
The best part of poster is all of the Wasp's costumes made the border
of the poster, George obviously did a lot of research (or had someone
did it for him).
In an interview with George Perez, WIZARD: THE COMICS MAGAZINE #35 also published this poster in their magazine.
The poster was published by (the now defunct?) Marvel Press, and is poster #148.
