    MARVEL COMICS #1000 (28 Aug 2019)
    Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics #1000 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Kat Calamia; ‘Rama Rating: 9 out of 10): Marvel Comics #1000 is a true celebration of Marvel’s 80-year publication history, and one of my favorite anthology issues of the year. While I admit some skepticism over the book’s one-page story structure, Al Ewing and a host of legendary creators were able to create a cohesive and even emotional story. My favorite of the bunch is Gerry Conway and Greg Land’s MJ narrative as she talks about her feelings towards Gwen’s death. MJ pours her heart out in these few panels, and it was a nice change of pace to see Gwen's death from the perspective of MJ instead of Peter. “We’re Calling Him Ben,” “She,” “The MJ Memoirs,” and “The Celebration Dinner” were also a few standouts from the pack. Marvel Comics #1000 has a story for every type of Marvel fan — it doesn’t only celebrate the past, but gives us a nice glimpse for what’s to come in the future.

Marvel Comics #1000 is out today. If you didn't know, each page is illustrated by a different artist. I recognized the George Perez page immediately, which focused on White Tiger (original and new - both designed by Perez) and Sons of the Tiger. In the credit box, you can see George's dedication: "Dedicated to Bill Mantlo. Thanks for everything."

Apparently, the reason why George Perez (and other former Marvel creators) are being recalled to work at Marvel Comics for their 80 years celebration - it is because Editor-In-Chielf C.B. Cebulski had an idea to sell a million copies of comics. Sounds like a "duh" idea, but can they afford to hire everyone?

George Pérez Comes Out of Retirement For Marvel Comics With Al Ewing in August?

    posted May 8, 2019, 10:13 AM

    From bleedingcool.com, thanks to John

    Excerpt:

And the second of these tonight is George Pérez, who announced his retirement earlier this year after health concerns. Well, he is seemingly out of retirement and returning to comic books – and to Marvel Comics no less – on a project with Al Ewing. The nature of that project is as yet unknown – but it is planned for August.
