Among the events and festivities that happened was an appearance by newly inducted Hall of Famer George Perez.  Earlier this year, George had a heart attack and, for now, has had to stop doing conventions until his doctor has cleared him... but he was able to make an appearance today and signed autographs and posed for pictures. He has lost some weight and joked about having to buy some new clothes because nothing fits ...

Jon Huertas Explains Why He Made ‘White Tiger’

“This is Us” actor tells TheWrap he turned to comic books for guidance when he was growing up, learning to “always fight for the little guy”

Actor Jon Huertas’ inspiration in making the self-financed “White Tiger,” based on the Marvel character, was simple — he wanted to see a superhero he could relate to.

White Tiger, created by Bill Mantlo and George Pérez, was the first Puerto Rican superhero in the history of comics, and Marvel’s first superhero of Hispanic descent. Growing up without a father figure, Huertas looked to film, television and comic books for guidance.

    (excerpt)

“I saw heroes like that and it made me want to be more like that than the guy slinging dope on the corner or the guy in a gang,” the “This is Us” actor said. “I wanted to be a good guy and make great decisions and be a strong male figure in my own life because of that.”

    Comments: Hola Mi Gente:

My name is Raul Santos, and native Puerto Rican from New York city,Brooklyn. I've been a admirer of your work for a long time and you while John Bryne are my favorite artist.

The reason I am writing this post is because being I was quite shock to learn that since your creation of "White Tiger" being the first Puerto Rican Hero. There really hasn't been one since. I heard there was a female "white tiger" but its just a spinoff of the original character. So I decided to get a fellow Boricuas together and Create a "New" Puerto Rican Hero. I think the public is ready for such a hero and so far my team has come up with some interesting ideas. I want to also add that what we are doing is not for fame or fortune, but out of Pure Pride of Puerto Rico. I was wondering if you had any advice for us in regards to this assignment. Gracias mi gente por todos que tu echo para poner la Isla de encanto en la mapa.

    Wepa!
