DC DIRECT MAKES CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES RETURNABLE AND ANNOUNCES NEW RUN
Novemeber 14th, 2005
DC Direct is
inviting retailers and consumers to return CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS
SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES due to quality control problems with the
collection.
Retailers can return the
figures from November 23 through December 21 via Diamond Comic
Distributors for a full refund plus a $5 credit to cover shipping.
"We always have our
retailers and consumers first in mind and, as soon as these figures
arrived, we realized that they did not meet DC Direct's standards,"
says Senior VP — Brand Management Cheryl Rubin. "Along with the credits
we're offering retailers, we are also in the midst of a brand—new
production run (to be released in mid—2006) that will live up to the
high quality level DC Direct is known for."
NOTE
TO RETAILERS: See the November 23 and December 7 Diamond Datelines or
the December issue of Diamond Dialogue for full details on how to
return the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES.

Okay, I originally wasn't going to buy these
action figures, but I was at a comic convention the other day and they
were semi-decently priced so I picked them up.
I only picked up two Pérez-designed figures: Harbinger and The Monitor.
I have to say that because George Pérez wasn't involved in the action figures process, it just doesn't look that great.
If you look any of Alex Ross's Justice League Series,
all the action figures has that Ross's art style to them. The Crisis
figures, in my opinion, doesn't really bear that Pérez flair. I don't
know what it is, it just doesn't feel like a Pérez figure :/
Anyway, the adhesive that DC Direct
used on their figures was too sticky or something, because I tried to
move the Monitor's left arm and it just BROKE OFF !!! I tried putting
super glue on it and it seems to be holding, but it's permanently
stuck.
It's really okay, I think of DC Direct's
figures as nothing more than statues that you can move the arm and
legs. For instance, Harbinger's arms does not bend down. It's pretty
annoying, I wish these figures are more poseable.
Enough complaining, they DO look pretty cool.
Anyway, the Monitor figure is the most
common (I picked it up for $5) while the Robin 2 Figure is the hardest
to find, which I've seen for as much as $30 for that action figure.
Despite what Diamond warns retails:
Retailers please note: The HARBINGER Action Figure is only available to retailers in Inner and Master Case assortments.
Harbinger is NOT the rare in a case.

#38 DC DIRECT CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS
written by Alejandro Arbona
Good news for kids who enjoy killing their toys! In June, DC Direct begins releasing a slew of figures centered on the continuity-rewriting, death-fueled classic, Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Playtime now can include Harbinger murdering the Monitor and the Silver
Age Kara Zor-El Supergirl losing her life with reality itself at stake!
Unsettled parents will shudder as Junior runs the Flash - that's Barry
Allen as the Flash - around and around to disable the Anti-Monitor's
anti-matter cannon, until the toy speedster consumes itself and wastes
away to nothing. Adults and kids alike will delight in collapsing
infinite universes of action figures into one single reality as they
finally get to act out the cataclysmic story of Crisis with
toys. June's Crisis Series I features Supergirl, the Monitor, Earth-2
Robin, Psycho Pirate and armor-wearing Luthor and the Anti-Monitor.
Other lines to look forward to throughout 2005 include the Alex Ross JLA and Legion of Doom figures from Justice, Jim Lee's Superman, Batman: The Long Halloween, and more "Batman: Hush"!

TODAY'S VIEWS: OCTOBER 22
written by Marv Wolfman
Coming out next May is the classic
Nightwing figure from DC, just the way George Pérez and I created him
way back when. Thanks to Vu Nguyen for sending me THIS LINK. The DC Titans line seems to be growing nicely, and of course I love seeing all the toys.
As most folk know, sometime next year DC
is also releasing the Crisis on Infinite Earths line of figures, in
time for the 20th anniversary of Crisis as well as the publication of
my new CRISIS NOVEL (see the ads to the right).
It's hard to believe that the Crisis will be 20 next year, but it
started in January and ran 12 issues to December, 1985. The History of
the DC Universe followed a few months later letting everyone know what
the new DC mythology was. Things have changed... a lot... since then,
some for the good, some not, but comics need to change. Still, it's
great to see the old work honored. I love the Titans toys and having
seen some of the prototypes, I know the Crisis toys are going to be
really great, too.

CRISIS OF INFINITE TOYS

Just in time for its 20th Anniversary, DC unleashes 'Crisis' figures.
2005 will be a banner year for the bullet logo.
As DC Comics celebrates its 70th
birthday, collectors will get the chance to mark the 20th anniversary
of the continuity-cleansing milestone series Crisis on Infinite Earths with action figures. The debut wave is tentatively set for June 2005, and will include five figures based on Crisis
characters: The Monitor, Pyscho Pirate, Harbinger, Supergirl and
Earth-2 Robin. While fans rejoice, we talk to Georg Brewer, DC's veep
of design and retail product development, to get the skinny on the
figures, the concept of infinity and dead superheroes.
TOYFARE: Recently, DC Direct has focused on lines of action figures based on landmark comic stories (such as Kingdom Come, for example). What finally brought about a line based on Crisis on Infinite Earths?
Georg Bewer: Well, it was one of the largest events in our
publishing history, and it has been on our shortlist for a very long
time. One of the ways we've always tried to distinguished our product
is to make it as authentic to the comic as we can, tapping into those
key moments that resonate with the fans.
Speaking of authenticity to the
comic, will George Pérez have a direct hand in the making of the
figures, á la Jim Lee with Hush ?
Obviously, there's such a body of work that George has done with
Crisis and on JLA with these characters. I don't know that we'll need
him to do new work, but I'll certainly have a conversation with him if
he's interested.
But the sculpts will be based off of Pérez's art?
Absolutely.
So what can we expect to see in 2005?
What we're looking to do is some characters that were original to
Crisis, character that were important to the story. That's the great
thing about Crisis. We can do any characters every.
This is a perfect chance to offer collectors alternate version of DC characters. Since DC Direct has already done a Silver Age Flash, can we anticipate a new, more-articulated sculpt for the Crisis incarnation of Barry Allen?
We've done so many different lines of figures, but since [the Crisis
line] is so specific to this particular point in history, we're gonna
try to hit that look as much as we can. [But] when you add more
articulation, you move further and further away from the source. I
think on the average, there will be a minimum of 9 to 13 points of
articulation. There may be more in some characters. We have to take it
on a character to character basis.
Any chances for a battle-ravaged Supergirl or dead Barry Allen for the morbid collector?
It's possible. You could always take the Deadman sculpt from Kingdom Come and wrap a Flash costume around it.
Pardon the pun, but with Crisis you
have an infinite amount of possibilities. If it's successful, is this
an going line that could last say… infinitely?
Very possibly. Crisis is such a great umbrella to touch on things
like Earth-2 that you can't do in other places and you can
[incorporate] a lot of characters. I'd like to see us continue to do
one or two Crisis wave a year. As long as the interest is there, we can
keep it rolling.
(Vu: You can vote for wave two on www.wizarduniverse.com/../toyfare.)
