TEEN TITANS: DEATHSTROKE ACTION FIGURE (Sep 2004)
DC Direct
|
WHO:: Deathstroke -- the toughest one-eyed merc in the DC Comics universe.
WHAT: DC Direct’s long-awaited take on a character once referred to as “Deathstroke, the terminator”!
WHY:: We’ve seen DC Direct versions of
villains like Star Sapphire, Mirror Master, and even Vandal Savage --
and none of those folks have cool boots or a long-sword! Plus,
Deathstroke, aka Slade Wilson (who simply goes by “Slade” on the Teen
Titans cartoon series), has been one of the most popular villains in the
DCU since his introduction in the The New Teen Titans book in 1980.
This baby’s got enough detail to make you
worry about being next on the hit-list. His outfit’s got chain-mail
detail on the torso and portions of his arms, an ankle knife is molded
onto the outside of his left boot (Love dem boots!), he’s got a holster
on one leg, grenades under his arm (These items are not removable -- you
are NOT an assassin.), and his mask even has loose strands where he’s
tied it so tight you can almost see him frowning! And, luckily, he’s
cool with run-on sentences. Ahem.
Deathstroke is part of a wave of
contemporary Teen Titans figures in which you’ll also find Robin, Wonder
Girl and Blackfire (evil sister to Starfire, who was part of a 2003
Teen Titans set). Slade’s also been featured in the very popular
Identity Crisis comics series, which has helped cement his reputation as
the big bad baddie to keep an eye on -- your good eye of course.
