13 Questions with George Perez: The Infinity Gauntlet posted Jun 9, 2019, 11:25 AM

EAST COAST COMICON 2019 (17-19 May 2019)
Meadowlands, New Jersey
Fast-forward a few months and I was able to sit down with Perez for a one-on-one panel at East Coast Comicon, one of the few stops on his convention farewell tour. In front of a crowded room, we went through every project in the TOP 13, from 13 to 1.
The result? THE GEORGE PEREZ INTERVIEWS, which we’re running here across 13 weeks, starting on Perez’s 65th birthday June 9.
13. The Infinity Gauntlet.
(excerpt)
Perez: Well, the reason I even took on the project was that I wanted to
draw as many characters at Marvel as I could, you know? (Laughter)
Unfortunately, I also chose to do that at the same time I had contracted
to write and draw War of the Gods over at DC, and it ended up being way
too much work. And there was a slight touch of disappointment when Jim
(Starlin) finally took the superheroes into outer space, where they
faced Thanos for the next couple of issues. I said, that means no more
superheroes are gonna be able to show up in these stories now. This is
it, this is the cast now. I wanted more characters to draw!
But either way I had to bow out. And quite honestly, I always thought
that the books should have been done by Ron Lim to begin with. Ron Lim
set up everything with Jim Starlin, he did The Thanos Quest and
everything else. So, it seemed only just that Ron should — because Ron
was only supposed to replace me for the last half of Issue #4 because I
was falling far behind. And when they said Ron could fill in and jump
onto Issue #5, I said, “Why don’t you just let Ron finish the series?
And I’ll glad;y ink Ron’s covers just to show that there’s not any
petulance on my part.”
But I just realized that I was not going to be able to keep that book on
schedule and Ron managed to do what I couldn’t do. So that’s why, of
course, it always has that asterisk that … it’s the series George Perez
couldn’t finish.
You know, in hindsight, how many people will even remember War of the
Gods — and look at how much money Infinity Gauntlet is making!
(Laughter)

George Perez will have art prints for sale at conventions posted May 24, 2019, 6:07 PM
Mark C asks:
EAST COAST COMICON 2019 (17-19 May 2019)
Meadowlands, New Jersey
Does George sell prints of his artwork when attending conventions? I'm
eyeing the Niagara Falls show and would be very interested in getting an
Infinity Gauntlet #1 cover print signed if possible.
Answer: Based on this photo from ECC, it appears that George Perez will
have large prints of his artwork available for purchase. I do not know
if Infinity Gauntlet #1 is among one of the prints, but NTT#1 (Baxter)
and JLA/Avengers #3 for sure. Update: Jason V said: Infinity Gauntlet #1 WASN'T there at East Coast Comicon. Price was 3 for $30 or $20 each.

The key, pay the early access fee....It’s worth it!! Majority of the complainers are the general admissions.
Knowing Mr. Perez is retiring and these are his last shows, do your
research and get up early, get there early and you will see him.
Lucked out and he signed my 12 comics on Friday and 5 on Saturday. Keep
in mind in both days we waited each 1-1/2 to 2hrs on line outside/lobby
before going in. In addition, waited 1-1/2 to 2 hours both days waiting
at his table line (behind the VIPS and Exhibitors) before we saw Mr.
Perez....TOTALLY EXPECTED AND WORTH IT!!!!
Remember, any caps to lines or limits to how many you can have signed is
discussed by the artist and organizers of the show, mainly so others
get a chance, breaks for Mr Perez because he does deserve it and for
safety wise as the Fire Marshall sets these restrictions and they will
shut it down (my brother is a firefighter) if the lines get out of hand.
Note, I heard Mr Perez was sign late Friday (heard until 9) because he
loves his fans.
Shannon Lower was awesome holding it down, great job and was awesome.
If you are going to Vegas or TerricCon....Be prepared and get there early and pay the extra $$$ If early access is offered.
Good Luck everyone!!

CrossGen Comics
FINALLY at the of today I was able to meet Mr. George Perez. He has been an enormous influence to both as an artist and writer.
I had inked one of his unpublished pages from the Sojourn/Lady Death
crossover (kudos to jaymtaylor for figuring it out) since he had
mentioned had never been inked.
I cleaned up my blueline inks, added a thank you, signed and framed it. I
was able to give it to him and he recognized the piece immediately. He
was also gracious to sign my inks so I can frame it in my studio.
It was a great moment in my career.
Best of health, George. -

Complaints about long lines and VIP badge abusers at East Coast Comicon 2019 posted May 18, 2019, 6:32 PM

Please note: George Perez does not have a manager, as far as I know.
>>> Joseph E writes:
No
one seems to have mentioned that they are supposed to punch a hole in
the VIP pass once someone went to meet George. We could also see from
the line that the VIPs were handing the passes off which prevented the
line from moving. At 630, the event staff finally started punching the
tags. With 15 minutes left for the signing.
Tommy R writes:
I waited on line yesterday for 4 hours only to be told George had to
leave so he could attend his panel at 7 and that I would not have an
opportunity to meet & greet George for the last time since I could
only attend on Friday.
What really
aggravated me was the fact that the limit was 12 items (!) yesterday and
these scalpers (many of whom were going to be there all 3 days) took
full advantage while all I wanted was just a photo-op with my favorite
artist, and my good friend whom accompanied me just wanted to have his
New Teen Titans #1 signed by both George Perez and Marv Wolfman (whom
could not attend due to an injury). All that time wasted for nothing,
attending East Coast Comicon this year was a waste of time for us this
year.
The limit should have been 2: if you’re a true fan, just have your favorite comic(s) signed and a photo-op, then move along.
Anything else is excessive they should charge a minimum of $10 for each additional.
Then watch the dealers & scalpers back off.
___mr.oldschool4201___ writes:
On the way #home from #eastcoastcomiccon and honestly, what a
disappointment compared to last year. Higher prices on everything,
#bullshit with dealing with people's handlers and entourage all day.
Last straw was missing #georgeperez because his manager was such a
#bitch . Yeah there were some bright spots to the day but they were a
little few and far between. The entire atmosphere just felt different
and it sucked. Did I mention even tickets had cost more this year.

Told 12
items, line cap three times. Never got to me him and was told to come
early tomorrow like that sh** matters. Staff was not properly set up. I
regret buying my ticket.
VIP badges were abusing the
system with some staff not caring. Once a vip holder gets the 12 items
signed they pass gets hole punched. That was not the case. The staff and
con was not set up properly. I truly feel bad for people that wasted a
Friday ticket

Meadowlands, New Jersey
For East Coast Comic Convention
Commissions will go on sale the night of April 16th at exactly midnight
(Eastern Time Zone) when it becomes April 17th. I use the time stamp as
given by my email host ( spencerbck@aol.com ) and they have the final
word as to when it is received, not I. Any requests that come in before
midnight will be disqualified ... even if they come in at 11:59:59 PM
..... 12 MIDNIGHT and not a second earlier. Bear in mind that for C2E2 commissions sold out in FOUR SECONDS (Yes, at 12:00:04 all commissions were sold out) so make sure to get your order in as quickly as possible at the deadline.
Please make sure to include your EXACT request as any emails that
come in without the character are disqualified and discarded. All
orders must have your first and last name in them as well the exact
request. Remember, Mr. Perez is doing single character, head shots ONLY
and nothing else. One request per person, per name, per household, per
family, or per address. You must be present at the show to pick up the
artwork in person ... NO PROXIES. Sketch cover requests are not
possible at this time. SORRY. Too many potential problems and we do not
wish to be responsible for anyone having a bad experience should the
comic be lost, damaged or destroyed anywhere in the process or shipping
thereof. Finally, he is doing only 15 commissions total for the show.
There will be no on site drawing done.
I hope this is not too blunt, and hopefully, this answers all
outstanding questions. We reserve the right to adjust the rules should
some unforeseen question come up that has not yet been addressed.
