Heroes Con takes place in Charlotte, NC,
usually on Father's Day weekend at the Charlotte Convention Center
downtown, but this year it was pushed to the end of June (June 30, 2006
to July 2, 2006). Heroes Con is a nice friendly place to take the whole
family to enjoy comics, card games, Heroes Clix, etc. This year I made
an effort to take more photos, and so I did. This year's photo album
has over 600 photos.
When asked about what artists they would
like to see working on 52, the audience offered up an eclectic group
including many Marvel exclusive artists. "Who said Jim Lee?" asked
DiDio. "That's great. Issue #74."
"A lot of artists are now trying to get
a week," said Rucka. "There are some of them that have surprised me
because I'm like, 'You have a great big name. Why would you?'"
Artists that will be working on the
back-up stories in future issues of 52 include Eric Powell, Brian
Bolland, Kevin Nowland, Adam Hughes and George Perez.
HEROES CON: DAY TWO

Long lines of eager fans were
in place for the ten o'clock opening of the doors at Heroes Con in
Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday and the joint was indeed jumping,
as they say.

As many fans could be found off the
floor as well as on, as the spacious concourses outside the main con
floor held featured signings, panels and numerous amenities, not the
least of which being a Starbuck's. Among the big draws for the day were
Rosario Dawson, Warren Ellis, Bryan Hitch, George Perez and Greg Rucka,
who continued signing for fans even after his line had been capped and
the scheduled time had passed. Perez also created long lines on the
floor, signing at the comic creator retirement charity, ACTOR.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jann
Jones, assistant editor of the weekly 52 series, told the crowd at DC
Comics' 52 panel at Heroes Con on Saturday that an impressive list of
artists has been lined up for back-up features.
Among those contributing
will be Eric Powell, Brian Bolland, Adam Hughes, George Perez, Kevin
Nowlan and Jones' husband, 52 cover artist J.G. Jones.
As far as interiors go,
DC's Dan DiDio said that having Keith Giffen doing breakdowns gives 52
a consistent look, despite whomever is penciling.
"He can take so much
information and put it out in a cohesive manner," DiDio said, noting
that he didn't want a "jarring" issue-to-issue approach to the book
despite the several pencilers.
"I've been watching the art come in and we're not compromising anything to get this out on a weekly basis," Jann Jones added.
HEROES CON: DAY ONE

Heroes Con opened Friday at the
Convention center in Charlotte, North Carolina to moderately-sized, but
enthusiastic crowd.
Among the day's big draws were British comics writer Warren Ellis. His
early afternoon signing saw a line that traversed the length of the
concourse where his table was situated and where fans had begun lining
up before convention doors opened at 11:00 AM. From there, it was to a
Q&A session hosted by Heidi MacDonald.
Actress Rosario Dawson, on hand to
promote her "OCT: Occult Crimes Taskforce," took a seat at the 12 Gauge
Comics booth to little fanfare and was a very-down to Earth presence on
the convention floor.
Big floor draws included Adam Hughes and
J.G. Jones, Ed McGuiness and Dexter Vines and George Perez, signing at
the ACTOR booth.
Oh, and also speaking of HeroesCon, A.C.T.O.R.
has listed two HeroesCon-related auctions on eBay! The first auction is
a one-of-a-kind chance to have lunch with living legend George Perez at
the convention, on Friday, June 30th, at noon! Not only will the winner
get to sit down with George for lunch, but George will also do an
original full-figure drawing of a character of their choice! And this
is the only full drawing George will be doing at HeroesCon--his other
sketching will be limited to head shots only! Holy moly! The second
auction is for a "Cup of Joe" coffee break with Marvel Editor-In-Chief
Joe Quesada! Joe will be so busy at HeroesCon, he even wants to spend
his breaks on the fans, but in order to sit down for some java and a
danish with one of the most important guys in comics, you're going to
have to pay! All proceeds from both auctions go to benefit A.C.T.O.R.!
You are
bidding on an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend some quality time
with one of comics' greatest artists: George Prez!
The winner of this auction will get to have lunch with the artist of Avengers, Infinite Crisis and more!
The lunch
will take place near the Charlotte Heroes Con on Friday, June 30 at
approximately 12 noon. Lunch is on A.C.T.O.R. at a local restaurant,
AND George will also give you a personal one-character original sketch
of a character of your choice! PLEASE NOTE: This is the ONLY
full-figure drawing George will be doing this weekend! The rest are
headshots only!
Interested
fans can win the opportunity to meet creators George Prez and Joe
Quesada as this year's Heroes Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A Commitment To Our Roots (A.C.T.O.R.) Comic Fund has opened bidding on
two eBay auctions for one lucky bidder to have a meal with these
creators.
The first auction, which is for Lunch with George Prez, will be held
on Friday, June 30, 2006 at a local restaurant. In addition to the
opportunity to meet one of comic's greatest artists, Prez will also be
doing a personal, one-character sketch of the winner's choice.
The second auction being offered to fans is a Cup o' Joe Coffee Break
with Joe Quesada. The winner of the is auction will have coffee and
pastries at a local coffee shop on Saturday, July 1, 2006 and have the
opportunity to talk comics with Marvel's Editor-in-Chief.
Fans can bid on the auctions on eBay by following the links:
Well, I know it's frustrating, but we can't announce it yet--Shelton has got a slew of new confirmations to add to the HeroesCon 2006 Guest List,
but it looks like it won't be until next week. Patience, patience--he's
still digging out from under the mountain of sweet e-mails he's been
getting since last July! Rest assured, these additions are pretty
exciting--not only a ton of returning HeroesCon "family" members, but
some brand new names that are pretty huge! We're planning on doing the
additions in three or four waves, so stay tuned!

This
is a list of the comics conventions I will be attending in 2006. Some
are "rain-check" appearances for shows that I had to cancel in 2005 due
to health reasons. In some cases this puts me in a position of
attending some conventions on back-to-back weekends, but it couldn't be
helped. I hope to be able to get together with a lot of my fans next
year and will be warming up my autograph hand.
February 24th - 26th: MegaCon, Orlando, FL
April 21st - 23rd: Pittsburgh Comicon, Monroeville, PA
April 28th - 30th: Paradise Toronto Comicon, Toronto, Canada
May 19th - 21st: Motor City Con, Novi, Michigan
June 30th - July 2nd: Heroes Con, Charlotte, NC
July 20th - 23rd: Comicon International, San Diego, CA
September 1st- 4th: Dragon Con, Atlanta, GA
September 9th - 10th: Baltimore Comic Con, Baltimore, MD
I will also be attending the October Portland, OR show for Second
Genesis (another rain-check from 2005) but I still have no confirmed
date.
That should keep me busy for the year in between issues of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD.
