MEGACON 2007 FLASHBACK: DICK GIORDANO PANEL

Legendary artist, George Perez said, “I can't think of a person I'm
prouder to honor than Dick. Dick was one of the first artists who gave
me my first criticism.” He went onto say, “Anyone who knows Dick knows
that he was always encouraging new ideas and always wanted to help new
talent. It was a great pleasure having Dick Giordano who inked some of
my first work—including the New Teen Titans. I was really honored that
the boss man had his hands on my work. We became friends during our
entire time [at DC Comics]. Dick finally hung up his editorial hat and
left DC Comics—for quite a while, there was a hole in DC's production,
in DC's heart. They are starting to get back to that and now with Dan
Didio I've gotten to know Dan and the biggest compliment I ever gave Dan
Didio [...] is that I compared him to Dick Giordano. I am so happy to
see bit of Dick's heart going back into a company that I've loved
working with so much. You couldn't honor a nicer, gentler, more talented
man than Dick Giordano. I'm very proud to have called this man a friend
for a lot of years and Dick, you really deserve this.”

First, I want to thank Beth W. of MegaCon 2007 for issuing press passes to The Masked Blogger and his associate ZenGrrl.
We enjoyed covering various aspects of the Con and the access that the
press passes allowed us. I'm already thinking about adding video
coverage for next year's MegaCon. Thank you, Beth.

The "celebrity" guests
were a good mix this year. Noel Neill, Margot Kidder, Lou Ferrigno, Sean
Astin, Kevin Sorbo, Mary McDonnell, and Jamie Barber on the media side
and MegaCon Guest of Honor Dick Giordano, Adam Hughes, J.G. Jones, Adam
Kubert, Amanda Conner, Barbara Kesel and perennial MegaCon guest,
legendary artist George Perez, among many others, made for a slate of
guests with something for everyone. I even saw Virgil from WCW and WWE
Wrestling at a signing table, but sadly no one was in line to get his
autograph.
Speaking of George Perez, the man is
still looking absolutely fantastic following the diet and exercise
regimen he's been engaging in to control his diabetes. In fact, he looks
like one of the superheroes he draws.

MEGACON: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD'S GEORGE PEREZ

MEGACON 2007 (16-18 Feb 2007) - Orlando, Florida

ORLANDO -- With editor Joey Cavalieri stuck in New York because of the
weather, George Perez proved brave and bold enough to handle The Brave
and The Bold panel at MegaCon on Friday.
(excerpt)
Following are the highlights:
* Perez had in hand an early look at The Brave and The Bold #1, which
reaches stores on Wednesday. Since he has only two more convention
appearances -- in New York and Pittsburgh -- until 2009, he decided to
sign the book and make it available at the convention through Hero
Initiative.
* Perez noted that he just found out that
he'll be doing 10 issues of The Brave and The Bold per year with writer
Mark Waid. "My contracted stipulated 10 books per year because DC
didn't want to overburden me," Perez said. "I didn't know about it. None
us knew there was a skip month."
DC's just-released May solicitations
revealed no The Brave and The Bold #4. That issue will arrive in stores
in June, and there will be a skip month every four months.

MegaCon 2007
February 18th, 2007 by The Masked Blogger
MegaCon 2007 opened yesterday at the Orange County Convention Center and
runs through Sunday at 5pm. You can get my take on the first day here,
and ZenGrrl's here over on Orlando MetroBlog.
(excerpt)
I went back to the first room we had been for a "Special Panel TBA"
which turned out to be a tribute to MegaCon Guest of Honor Dick
Giordano. Mr. Giordano has been in the comic book industry since 1951,
working as an artist and inker, then serving as Editor in Chief of
Charlton Comics and later as the Executive Editorial Director of DC
Comics. In recent years, he and his creative partners formed Future
Entertainment, a multi-media company. Comic book luminaries and legends
such as George Perez, Adam Kubert and Brian Pulido, among others, took
to the dais to honor Mr. Giordano. As a crowning touch, a proclamation
from Orange County Mayor Crotty was read, designating February 17, 2007
as "Dick Giordano Day".
