There
is something amazing about the musical “Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The 1982
Tony Award Winner for Best Musical seems to bring out the best in young
adult ensembles wherever it is played and the current production by the
Moonlight Players of Clermont is no exception.
During the
prologue by narrator Lessa Hanna they form a tableau in which I could
not detect a twitch or eyelash move. It’s the first sign that this is
going to be an exceptional show.
This musical delight is based
on the Old Testament, Genesis 35-47 in an upbeat operetta format.
Joseph (P. J. Gajda). favored son of Jacob (George Perez), is given a
‘coat of many colors.’ Joseph’s eleven brothers are envious and sell
him into Egyptian slavery. Joseph’s special gift of interpreting dreams
leads to his release and he becomes the number two man to the Pharaoh
(Michael Werner).

Recently, he has been seeing plenty.
Perez has taken on roles in the theater's current production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, including designing and executing the show's sets and acting in it.
P.J. Gajda, who plays Joseph, said of Perez, "He would sit there with a
sketchbook, drawing this elaborate set. He is a master at work."
Perez has been designing – and sponsoring – the glossy covers of the
theater's programs. If any are left over, he autographs them and sells
them on eBay.
"I have a fan base who are collectors," said Perez, who drew The Avengers series and the Teen Titans.
