Hi there all. I’m going to try something unusual here and I hope you all will indulge me and hopefully participate.
On July 15 and 16, the Moonlight Players in
Clermont, FL, a group I’ve been involved with for quite a few years
now, is hosting its third annual Moonlight Cabaret Benefiting Broadway
Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. In addition to some wonderfully talented
friends performing a bunch of fabulous show tunes, there will be an
auction afterwards with many items provided by Broadway Cares as well as
those donated by private individuals.
Last year I had the honor of
performing alongside these terrific singers, but regrettably cannot do
so this year. However, I want to show some extra support by contributing
a few items to the auction myself, including a piece of original art
featuring the DC Comics Trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman
(also posted here) I’ve drawn specifically for the charity. I’ve posted
it here in order to give all my fans a chance to bid on it before the
actual Cabaret—in essence providing a starting bid at the actual event.
I’m hoping that the bidding will be high enough to make it a real
challenge for the amount to be beaten at the auction, but, giving the
live audience a chance to try to up it, wallets permitting.
Now,
most of my fans know that I haven’t offered private commissions for some
time, so this is a pretty rare chance to get an original piece of art
and benefit a worthy cause at the same time.
How I want this to work
is that, for the next week (up to July 11th) any interested parties
send me bids via private message. (PLEASE DON’T POST BIDS ON MY
TIMELINE)
I will reply whether the bid is accepted or whether a
higher bid has already been made, giving everyone a chance to bid
higher. I will continue doing this until the evening of July 11th
wherein I will inform everyone that the bidding has closed and let the
highest bidder know that he or she is the current leader.
The
highest bidder will then be asked just how high he or she is willing to
go beyond that bid if someone bids higher at the live auction on Friday,
July 15th, the day I will be attending the show.
If the online
bidder is the winner, I will pay that amount out of my own pocket at the
auction and will send the artwork to him or her once the winner sends
me the amount they bid.
Is all that clear? I hope so. I’ve never
done this before and I really want to help the Moonlight Players set a
new record for this most worthy of causes.
For the record, the art
is done with marker (as is all of my art these days) on standard comic
book Bristol board. I will absorb the cost of shipping and handling and
the art can be inscribed to the buyer if desired.
So, now, I ‘m personally starting the bid at $200 and I hope you all leave me in the dust.
Thank you.
UPDATE:
After one day I've already received a high bid of $1000! I don't know if
that will be topped (although I would be over the moon if it was), but
it's already a great amount. Thanks to all who've participated so far!
