Infinity Gauntlet Panel at Niagara Falls 2019

posted Jun 16, 2019, 9:29 AM by Vu Nguyen

    From youtube.com

NIAGARA FALLS COMIC CON 2019 (7-9 Jun 2019)
    Niagara Falls, Ontario
George Pérez, Jim Starlin and Joe Rubenstein -- renowned comic book artists, writers and inkers who are well known for originating the Marvel Comics character Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet story arc -- discuss their storied careers, share behind-the-scenes stories and answers fan questions at their standing-room-only 2019 Niagara Falls Comic Con Q&A panel.

James P. Starlin (born October 9th, 1949) is an American comics artist and writer. Beginning his career in the early 1970s, he is best known for space opera stories; for revamping the Marvel Comics characters Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock; and for creating or co-creating the Marvel characters Thanos, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Shang-Chi. Later, for DC Comics, he drew many of their iconic characters, especially Darkseid and other characters from Jack Kirby's Fourth World. For Epic Illustrated, he created his own character, Dreadstar.

George Pérez (born June 9th, 1954) is a retired American comic book artist and writer, whose titles include The Avengers, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman. Writer Peter David has named Pérez his favorite artistic collaborator.

Josef "Joe" Rubinstein (born June 4th, 1958) is a comic book artist and inker, most associated with inking Marvel Comics' The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and the 1982 four-issue Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. He is also known to be the one to have given artist Art Adams his first professional work.

Part one of my Niagara Falls Comic Con pick ups. George Perez Thing Commission. Very pleased with the way this turned out! Back in May, I managed to get on George Perez’s commission list for Niagara Falls Comic Con. Sent my request at 11:59:59 and it delivered at 12:00 on the dot. Big thanks to George and Spencer for the opportunity. The 1.5 hour wait to meet Mr. Perez was well worth it.

Line up for George Perez at Niagara Falls Comic Con 2019, despite autograph ticketing system

As I understand it, the free autograph tickets for George Perez will have a time range on them. For example, the first group of ticket-holders might be for 10am to 11am. This would still created a line, but admittedly would be a smaller and more controlled line. Still, as Theodis pointed out - they really needed to move the Infinity Gauntlet team to separate area.

    Theodis W writes:

I attended today and got to meet him. The picture, however, is actually the line to meet Jim Starlin, who arrived late. George's line was on the other end in the background of the picture, perpendicular to the line in the photo.

While it wasn't the chaos I heard happen at ECCC, NFCC obviously didn't pay much attention to prevent anything similar. I was in the first group of ticket-holders. First George's people had the line situated, which wasn't bad considering other lines were forming for Starlin and Rubinstein.

But then NFCC staff decided to intervene and move there line again and totally caused an unnecessary logjam with lines and people blocking entrances. It made no sense at all. It didn't phase George as he kept on signing and smiling for pics.

I understand why they may have had them sit together, but from a logistical standpoint, if they weren't willing to provide the needed space, they should've separated them some.

Jim Starlin, George Perez, and Josef Rubinstein talking about their extensive careers. Perez was here 15 minutes early and thanked his fans for supporting him during his career that allowed him to do what few people have done, fulfill their childhood dreams through their career. Starlin still can’t get over the fact how Thanos went from a cult niche character to pop culture icon most notably him being made into a Funko pop doll with countless variations. He was jokingly bitter about being reminded about the Thanos-Copter in Endgame with Thanos’ sword. Though according to him the winner of a Thanos/ Darkseid fight would simply come down to whoever delivers first blow.

Though it was most enlightening to hear just how much Karen Berger was instrumental in allowing George Perez to tell the kinds of story he wanted to tell with Wonder Woman and both Karen and Perez viewing Diana as a fantasy character rather then a superhero. Unfortunately Karen Berger left editing the title due to maternity leave by the time War of the Gods came around. This lead to Perez seeing how much editors didn’t much care about Wonder Woman and many of the writers having no knowledge on what was going on in the crossover or who Wonder Woman was as a character. Unfortunately this trend continued to this day with War of the Gods and the rest of Perez’s 62 run ( issues only up to 24 were collected because he drew them) only now being collected due to reception of the 2017 Wonder Woman film.

UPDATE: Niagara Falls Comic Con will enforce an autograph ticketing system for George Perez.
UPDATE: You must pick up a free autograph ticket, regardless if you have a VIP pass or not. Free autographs, but limited to five items.

    >>>
Attention Niagara Falls Comic Con attendees - George Perez will be at his autograph table at F8 (see map) all day June 8 (Saturday) and 9 (Sunday), unless he's scheduled for panels or bathroom breaks.

As with all of George's previous Farewell Tour appearances, if you want something signed, get in line as soon as you can. The lines from reports have been anywhere from two to six hours, just to give you an idea of what to expect. There is probably going to be an item limit on what you can get signed. With the last one, it was originally unlimited items to 12 items to 6 items to 3 items. George is signing for FREE, but there is a donation purse for charity, if you have the extra cash. If you are going, good luck.
